Sustainability
As one of eleven Hamburg museums, exhibition venues and memorials, we are committed to one of the defining challenges of our time: the global transformation towards sustainability. Hamburg's new climate protection targets aim to reduce the city's emissions by 70% compared to 1990 levels by 2030, with net CO₂ neutrality to be achieved by 2040. Culture both can and must play its part – without reducing access to art and culture for anyone.
Through the Elf zu Null (Eleven to Zero) initiative, eleven institutions have joined forces in a nationwide pioneering project to take shared responsibility and drive the ecological transformation of their venues in a consistent and sustainable way. The focus is always on concrete action. Our work aims not only to contribute to Hamburg's climate targets, but also to secure the long-term viability of museums, exhibition venues and memorials on society's collective path to climate neutrality.
