Sustainability
As one of eleven museums, exhibition venues, and memorial sites in Hamburg, we are committed to addressing one of the defining challenges of our time: the global transformation towards sustainability. Hamburg’s climate targets aim to reduce the city’s emissions by 70% compared to 1990 levels by 2030 and achieve net carbon neutrality by 2040. Culture can – and must – contribute to this transition while ensuring that access to art and culture remains open to all.
Through the Elf zu Null (“Eleven to Zero”) initiative, eleven institutions have joined forces in a pioneering nationwide project to take collective responsibility and advance the ecological transformation of their venues in a consistent and sustainable way. The focus is always on tangible action.
Our ambition is not only to contribute to Hamburg’s climate goals, but also to strengthen the long-term resilience of museums, exhibition venues, and memorial sites as part of society’s broader path towards climate neutrality.
