House rules

The purpose of these house rules is to ensure that your visit to our exhibitions takes place in a pleasant and respectful atmosphere. Adhering to these rules is in your own interest. These house rules are binding for all visitors and apply to all buildings and premises under the direct management of Deichtorhallen Hamburg, including all outdoor areas. By entering these premises and buildings, visitors acknowledge the rules stated herein, as well as any additional regulations enacted to ensure operational safety.

We wish you an enjoyable visit. Please observe the following rules:

Protection of Exhibits and Visitor Conduct
1. Touching exhibits is strictly prohibited. In the event of damage to artworks, staff are authorized to record the personal details of the responsible party. Visitors are liable for any damages they cause.

2. Animals are not allowed in Deichtorhallen Hamburg, with the exception of assistance dogs for people with disabilities.

3. Entering exhibition rooms with bulky items of any kind—such as umbrellas, large backpacks, fabric totes, or handbags larger than DIN A4 (approx. 8 x 12 x 4 in / 20 x 30 x 10 cm)—is not permitted. Walking sticks and crutches are allowed if they have rubber tips.

4. The aforementioned items as well as coats and jackets must be left at the coat check or stored in lockers. Deichtorhallen Hamburg assumes no liability for items stored there. For security reasons, clothing may not be carried over the arm.

5. Mobile phones must be set to silent in the exhibition rooms. Making phone calls is not permitted inside the exhibition areas.

6. Eating and drinking are not allowed in the exhibition rooms. Smoking is strictly prohibited throughout Deichtorhallen Hamburg, including the use of e-cigarettes. Notes and sketches may only be made using pencil on paper. The use and transportation of bicycles, scooters, skateboards, rollerblades, and similar devices is not allowed.

7. Teachers, group leaders, and guardians are responsible for the behavior of children and adolescents in their care. Children under the age of 6 are only permitted entry when accompanied by an adult. Adults are required to supervise children at all times. Changing facilities for infants are available in the restrooms.

8. Photography and filming for private use only are permitted in the exhibition spaces. The use of tripods, flash, or selfie sticks is not allowed. Please note that publishing photos or videos online or on social media does not constitute private use and may infringe copyright laws. Photography and filming for commercial, academic, or press purposes are only allowed with prior permission from Deichtorhallen Hamburg. For copyrighted artworks, only the artist or their legal successor may authorize publication, not Deichtorhallen Hamburg.

9. Lost items found within Deichtorhallen Hamburg should be handed in to the staff or at the ticket desk.

10. Items loaned by Deichtorhallen Hamburg, such as locker keys, headphones, or chairs, must not be taken outside the building.

11. Passages, stairs, emergency exits, and escape routes must be kept clear at all times. Emergency exits may only be used in case of an actual emergency.

12. Please behave considerately so as not to disturb or inconvenience other visitors. Refrain from any behavior that is inappropriate or compromises safety and order. The use of radios, televisions, or musical instruments is prohibited in the exhibition areas.

13. In case of theft alarms, management and authorized staff may close exits and carry out visitor checks. In the event of a fire alarm or emergency, all visitors must leave the building immediately. For safety reasons, cloakroom items will not be returned during emergencies. Instructions from staff must be followed at all times.

14. Please note that Deichtorhallen Hamburg is under video surveillance.

15. The consumption of drugs is prohibited on the private property of Deichtorhallen Hamburg. Violations will result in immediate expulsion and a ban from the premises.

16. Sleeping on the premises or in the buildings of Deichtorhallen Hamburg is not allowed. Violators will be expelled and may be banned.

16. Collecting donations, signatures, or conducting promotional activities, as well as begging, peddling, or selling goods of any kind privately, is not permitted. Exceptions require written authorization from Deichtorhallen Hamburg GmbH.

Admission Fees and Opening Hours
1. Admission fees and opening hours are posted at the ticket counter.

2. Admission tickets must be presented at the exhibition entrances. The resale of tickets is prohibited.

3. The ticket counters close 15 minutes before the end of opening hours. All visitors must leave the building by the official closing time.

4. In cases of overcrowding or for special reasons, Deichtorhallen Hamburg may temporarily or entirely close to visitors.

Supervisory and ticketing staff
Supervisory and ticketing staff are instructed to enforce compliance with the house rules. Visitors must follow their instructions. Anyone who fails to comply with the house rules or staff directions may be asked to leave by authorized representatives of Deichtorhallen Hamburg. Repeated violations may result in a permanent ban from the premises.

In the event of expulsion, the admission fee will not be refunded. Visitors are liable for any damages caused by their behavior. Parents are responsible for their children.

Effective Date
These house rules are effective immediately. The current version is posted in the foyers of Deichtorhallen Hamburg and may also be reviewed at the security office during business hours.

Severability Clause
Should any individual provision of these house rules be or become invalid or unenforceable, this shall not affect the validity of the remaining provisions.
