DAS IST KUNST: Mark Sealy
"It all leads back to love"
In this episode of DAS IST KUNST, Jumoke Olusanmi speaks with British curator Mark Sealy, who is taking on the role of artistic director of the 9th Hamburg Photography Triennial this year.
Mark Sealy (*1960) has dedicated his work as a curator and author primarily to decolonizing the Western gaze and promoting marginalized voices in international photography. He is the director of Autograph ABP (Association of Black Photographers) and Professor of Photography, Race, and Rights at the University of the Arts London. He served as chief curator of the 18th FotoFest Biennial in Houston in 2020. As part of the Triennale der Photographie, he is curating the exhibition ALLIANCE, INFINITY, LOVE – IN THE FACE OF THE OTHER at the Deichtorhallen Hamburg.
In the podcast, Mark Sealy talks about his early years in 1980s London, how music shaped his political consciousness, and his plans for the Triennale der Photographie in Hamburg.
