DAS IST KUNST: Thomas Levy
In this episode of DAS IST KUNST, Jumoke Olusanmi talks to Mexican-American photographer Philip Montgomery (born 1988). Montgomery is known for his photojournalistic work, in which he portrays American society—its conflicts and alliances—in iconic black-and-white images. Whether in Minneapolis after the murder of George Floyd or in Miami during Hurricane Irma, Montgomery uses flash photography and dynamic image composition to reveal disturbing connections and a fragile, often surreal beauty.
On the occasion of his exhibition AMERICAN CYCLES, photographer Philip Montgomery talks about his approach to photography, his encounters with the people he portrays, and why he questions American greatness.
Please note: The conversation with Philip Montgomery will be held in English only.
