ALL SYSTEMS GO: SARAH MORRIS IM GESPRÄCH MIT ISABELLE GRAW
Im Rahmen der der Ausstellung SARAH MORRIS – ALL SYSTEMS FAIL laden die Deichtorhallen zu einem Gespräch zwischen der Künstlerin und Isabelle Graw am 7. Juli ein.
Morris arbeitet mit der Realität ebenso wie mit farbintensiven, komplexen Abstraktionen und schafft dadurch eine neue, ortsbezogene und politische Sprache. Ihre Werke betrachtet sie als selbsterzeugend; sie sind offen für Interpretationen, Bewegung und Veränderung und vermitteln den Betrachter*innen ein Bewusstsein dafür, Teil eines größeren Systems zu sein. Sie spielt auf einzigartige Weise mit den Widersprüchen unserer Kompliz*innenschaft innerhalb gesellschaftlicher Mikro- und Makrostrukturen und gilt als eine der faszinierendsten Künstler*innen ihrer Generation. Sarah Morris lebt und arbeitet in New York.
Isabelle Graw gründete 1990 gemeinsam mit Stefan Germer † die Zeitschrift Texte zur Kunst in Köln und hat bisher 119 Ausgaben mitherausgegeben und konzipiert. Sie lehrt Kunsttheorie und Kunstgeschichte an der Staatlichen Schule für bildende Künste (Städelschule), Frankfurt am Main. Dort gründete sie 2003 auch gemeinsam mit Daniel Birnbaum das Institut für Kunstkritik. Zu ihren Veröffentlichungen zählen: Der große Preis. Kunst zwischen Markt und Celebrity Kultur (2008), High Price. Art Between The Market and Celebrity Culture (2010), Die Liebe zur Malerei. Genealogie einer Sonderstellung (2017), The Love of Painting. Genealogy of A Success-Medium (2018), Vom Nutzen der Freundschaft (2022), On The Benefits of Friendship (2023). Sie lebt und arbeitet in Berlin und Frankfurt.
Die Ausstellung ist für den Talk ab 18 Uhr zusätzlich geöffnet und nach dem Talk bis 22 Uhr zugänglich.

As part of the exhibition SARAH MORRIS – ALL SYSTEMS FAIL the Deichtorhallen invite you to a conversation between the artist and Isabelle Graw on July 7th.
Through her use both of reality and vivid, complexabstractions, Morris creates a new language of place and politics. She sees her works as self-generating, open to interpretation, motion, and change, giving the viewer a heightened sense that they are part of a larger system. The situations the artist places herself and the viewers within reflect the hierarchies we inhabit. Uniquely playing with the contradiction of our complicity with structures both macro and micro, Morris is considered one of the most intriguing artists of her generation. Sarah Morris lives and works in New York.
Isabelle Graw is a professor of arthistory and arttheory at the Staatliche Hochschule für bildende Künste (Städelschule) Frankfurt am Main. She founded Texte zur Kunst in 1990 with Stefan Germer (†) and co-edited and conceptualized 119 issues so far.
