The diversity of the changing program of exhibitions at the Deichtorhallen Hamburg is matched by the breadth of educational offerings for children, young people, and adults. In addition to traditional artistic techniques and media, the educational program on contemporary artistic practice also touches on current topics in art such as urbanism, social roles, and our relationship to the environment. The three venues of the Hall for Contemporary Art, the House of Photography, and the Falckenberg Collection equally shape the art education program. A range of events developed in the context of the various exhibitions offer further insights and opportunities for visitors of all ages to engage with art and photography.

The educational program at the Deichtorhallen offers a creative approach to art and its historical development. Our education personnel are true experts on art. They have many years of experience in art education, and most of them work in applied or fine art disciplines. The Deichtorhallen is conceived as an artistic institution in every regard. Thus, in the 1990s the museum replaced its traditional art education program with a targeted collaboration with artists as docents and leaders of projects and workshops. Our workshops are process-oriented and open-ended.

Various projects with young people, including the ART LAB, MUT and RESPEKT, have been successfully conducted or continue to be offered in cooperation with associations and schools. The Deichtorhallen cooperates with the Kulturagenten program for creative schools.

For adults we offer PUBLIC TOURS of the exhibitions on weekends. SPECIAL TOURS in German or English on specific dates and topics can also be arranged. A program of courses for adult visitors includes photography courses in the black-and-white darkroom as well as photography excursions with digital cameras, after which participants can edit their work on computers in the seminar room. Special programs related to current exhibitions, photography, and contemporary art can also be arranged for groups of adults, including company excursions, continuing education for teachers, and more. The ARTS CLUB, which was established in 2014, offers children and young adults a diverse range of events as well as a springboard into creative professions.
